SYNOPSIS

Oregon-Idaho HIDTA is teaming with Thermo Scientific to provide free training on synthetic drugs: fentanyl, bath salts, spice, and various other drugs. This one-day training will cover the history and chemistry of these and other synthetic drugs, information on drug identification, handling/risk mitigation, conducting synthetic drug investigations and legislative updates.

OBJECTIVES

Students will complete the course with greater familiarity and knowledge in the following areas:

•  The history and chemistry of synthetic drugs.

• How to safely identify, investigate, handle, dismantle, and prosecute fentanyl and other synthetic drug operations and organizations.

• Proper PPE and how to minimize the risks associated with fentanyl and other synthetic drugs.

• Current legislation and new federal and state laws.
  Familiarity with Thermo Scientific™ TruNarc™ - a handheld tool for the identification of synthetics and other drugs, cutting agents and precursors in the field.

Bruce Gentner - Retired Detective Bruce Gentner has worked for 23+ years for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in a variety of assignments including patrol, narcotics and on several federal drug task forces. Detective Genter has provided training to numerous agencies and professional groups, both domestically and internationally. Non-profit organizations bring training and education on Identification and Recognition of Narcotics to Nevada law enforcement and the Las Vegas community on narcotics related issues and events.

Registration

This course is sponsored and paid for by the Oregon-Idaho HIDTA and Thermo Schientific; space is limited to 60 students. Registration is free and students will be responsible for all other associated travel, lodging and meal expenses.
